Broad Brook, Connecticut to Corrales, New Mexico — with stops in Chestnut Ridge, Upper Saddle River, Allentown, Winchester, Wytheville, Asheville, Chattanooga, Nashville, Memphis, Oklahoma City, and Amarillo.
In Part 1, we examined the first half of the journey. Here are the rest of the highlights.
But there’s a pretty little thing, waiting for The King, down in the Jungle Room.
Citizen Kane? Rashomon? Vertigo? Annie Hall? Touch of Evil? Bicycle Thieves? On the Waterfront? Chinatown? None can hold a candle to this masterpiece.
The Million Dollar Quartet actually happened, on this very spot.
The Lorraine Civil Rights Museum Foundation maintains MLK’s assassination site. Fine — an enormously important moment in American history. Sadly, the museum is full of Identity Politics agitprop, and the foundation thinks Joe Biden is a “public servant” and “visionary.” Ugh.
Tough to get a decent meal in Memphis. This skillet shrimp was awful.
For some reason, the Arkansas Treasurer of State lets any rando schmuck enter the office’s vault and hold $600k. Man, that much moolah would solve even my financial problems!
Along with Ronald Reagan and Barack Obama, he shrank federal spending relative to GDP. I love Slick Willie!
Not a huge fan of Sarah Huckabee Sanders, but left a note, thanking her for supporting school choice.
Oklahoma adorns its capitol complex with petroleum-production equipment. Yeah, I like Oklahoma.
One thing to not like about Oklahoma: its “spaceport.” Whole lot of nuthin’ going on there. (The dogs in the reception area were really aggro, too.) I dropped by, unannounced, for an inspection. Sooner Staters, get your money back.
The Leaning Tower of Texas. Yep, that’s about it.
Cadillac Ranch is mighty cool.
I prefer Tucumcari’s second name — the one after “Ragtown” and before “Douglas.”
Won’t need soap, shampoo, conditioner, and moisturizing cream for a long time!
Thanks to the subscribers, who indulged my AWOL offense. Back to our regularly scheduled programming next week!
Sounds like a great trip. Welcome home. I’m leaving NM now on my way to Chicago (and my first ML game ever at Wrigley Field!!!!) then on to the farm in Minnesota.
Not sure what the Minnesota equivalent of Graceland is though—the house Bobby Zimmerman grew up in?
A little late reading this post. Sounds like an interesting road trip. Did you miss the green chile while you were gone?
