The thinking classes seem to labor under the delusion that they alone have overcome racial prejudice. The rest of the country, in their view, remains incorrigibly racist. Their eagerness to drag every conversation back to race is enough in itself to invite the suspicion that their investment in this issue exceeds anything that is justified by the actual state of race relations. Monomania is not a sign of good judgment. But whether it springs from self-righteousness or panic or a mixture of the two, the assumption that most Americans remain racists at heart cannot stand up to close examination. The improvement in racial attitudes is one of the few positive developments of recent decades.

Is it Time to Accept That Omicron is not COVID-19? (The Daily Sceptic)
“Whether governments had valid reason to bring fear in 2020 is arguable. None exists in 2022. … There is no reasonable or legitimate public safety purpose to behave as if ‘COVID-19’ is still the major threat in 2022, nor that the COVID-19 vaccine is still necessary.”
After rocky start, hopes up in Oregon drug decriminalization (Associated Press)
“Supporters want more states to follow Oregon’s lead, saying decriminalization reduces the stigma of addiction and keeps people who use drugs from going to jail and being saddled with criminal records. How Oregon is faring will almost certainly be taken into account if another state considers decriminalizing.”
Kayla Lemieux and the cult of validation (spiked)
“There it is. All of this is ‘non-negotiable’. We’re all slaves to validation now. It’s the new religious correctness — validate that person’s identity with your every utterance and mannerism or risk being branded one of the ‘erasers’ who is a threat to minority rights.”
Abortion upends the battle for a dozen key governorships (POLITICO)
“In the ad, Ronchetti says his position is ‘end late-term abortion,’ while trying to decouple his candidacy from the issue. ‘Honestly, no politician should decide this. You should,’ he says in the ad, calling for the issue to appear on a statewide ballot — a notable departure from the position several Republican state legislatures have taken.”
Kari Lake: Cheney comments may be ‘best gift I have ever received’ (The Hill)
“Hobbs is leading Lake 49 percent to 48 percent in the latest AARP poll.”
Biden Repeats False Claims about AR-15 Velocity in Support of a Ban (Jonathan Turley)
“Those false statements can be dismissed as just another gaffe or ‘Corn Pop’ story, but they refer to the factual foundation for gun control under the Second Amendment. Since President Biden is suggesting that such facts are material to a ban, there is a need for accuracy in such details.”
Scandals? What scandals? Here’s why fans are still watching the NFL (National Public Radio)
“If you look at television viewership numbers, the NFL’s keep rolling in strong as fans keep choosing football. In the first week of September, the top two shows in the Nielsen ratings were NFL games. Numbers three and four were NFL pregame shows.”
Goodbye, Globalization? (Reason)
“By itself, trade liberalization will ameliorate inflation but not cure it. Indeed, many critics of globalization argue that the global supply chain stresses caused by the pandemic reinforced the case for insourcing. The Biden administration has echoed that argument, which overlooks something economists have been trying to explain for years: Countries that are more integrated into global value chains experience far fewer price shocks than less integrated countries.”
RIP Dr. Tim Ball, Climate Realist (Watts Up With That?)
“Given that the execrable Michael Mann never paid his court ordered costs, the Ball family has authorized me to start a GoFundMe on their behalf to cover funeral and other expenses.”
Biden Impoverishing Americans To Cut Emissions Won’t Even Touch Climate Change (American Institute for Economic Research)
“Since 2005, per BP, China’s volume of CO2 emissions has increased by 5,177.8 million tons. India’s CO2 emissions increased by 1,478.5 million tons. Emissions across Africa (351.4 million tons), the Middle East (956.0), and South and Central America (148.3) have all increased.”
German Industry Collapse: Companies Leaving In Droves … “Can No Longer Bear Cost Explosion”! (NoTricksZone)
“In a recent survey by the German Association of Small and Medium-Sized Businesses … almost half of Germany’s medium size companies said: ‘the explosion in energy prices was threatening the existence of the company.’”
This strange-looking robot boat is mapping Lake Erie’s lake bed (The Plain Dealer)
“The strange-looking vessel is the DriX-12, an uncrewed surface vessel owned by the National Oceanic and Atmosphere Administration. It can sail without any crew members, can work for days at a time, and has specialized instruments used to map sea floors and to search for fish and other sea creatures.”
World’s first cloned arctic wolf is now 100 days old (Freethink)
“Cloning is still a challenging process — fewer than 25 animal species have been cloned to date, so the first successful cloning of a species is still newsworthy 25+ years after Dolly’s birth.”
Wild horses touch hearts in first-ever Montana competition (Billings Gazette)
“Yet not all mythologize mustangs. Some label them as useless, especially in the American West where they can compete with cattle for rangeland. ‘They get called desert rat, jugheaded. With their poor nutrition they don’t always develop well. They’re really a mutt — a mixture of all breeds. There’s this idea they look one way, but they come in all shapes and sizes.’”
Pushing the Global South into China’s embrace (Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft)
“This could be news to many in Washington, but even today, many in Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia and even Eastern Europe struggle to meet the basic necessities at the bottom of Maslow’s ‘hierarchy of needs’ pyramid — physiological needs (air, water, food, shelter, clothing) and safety needs (employment, resources, health, property). Leaders of the G-7, meanwhile, promote esteem needs near the top, such as freedom and self-respect.”
Your Turn
1. Are mustangs “useless”?
2. Isn’t the HR Department just ... the worst?
3. Have you walked away from the NFL?
4. Ever met a lumberjack?
5. Is it the federal government’s job to “map sea floors and … search for fish and other sea creatures”?
Have you walked away from the NFL?
Sort of. I was a Chicago Bears fan for 45 years and finally came to the decision that they were so awful that the 9 years of suffering for one good year simply was not worth it. I no longer have any team and am liberated. My Sundays are free. Proof that I have been cured is that I can now watch the Bears lose and it has no effect on me (as they were recently mauled by the Packers). I still watch some pro football as I greatly enjoy watching the Cowboys lose because it upsets their fans so much!
Businesses are leaving Germany in the cold & dark of their self-induced energy crisis. , Businesses are also seeking asylum from California because of the same failing non-energy policies.
New Mexico is at a crossroads in this election and legislature session. Either we elect a scientist, and as energy superpower welcome these business migrant and entrepreneurs.
Or NM inertia follows California & Germany into the ditch, re-electing the same failing leadership, and letting Nevada, Arizona, and Texas eat our lunch . . . again.
